“Ballathie is as unique as Scotland itself”  so says their brochure and indeed it is in many ways.  “As a privately owned country house, Ballathie is large enough for privacy and exclusive use, and yet small enough for an imitate gathering of friends and family – just perfect for the smaller wedding celebration.”

The hotel can accommodate up to 90 guests for both ceremony and reception but for larger celebrations, there is plenty room for a marquee to be set up.  There are also special event rooms for smaller more intimate occasions.  I’ve always found that weddings here are both relaxed and yet run very smoothly. This helps me because everyone is happy and so easier to photograph.

The grounds are extensive and opportunities for photographs abound all around the hotel.  There are mature trees lining the main drive, which gives a wonderful colour in the autumn while in the spring the azaleas, rhododendrons, and trees with blossom are perfect.  The two main turrets of the hotel make the building a fine backdrop for pictures and I often use that feature for the largest group picture.
