Apart from loving taking pictures, I love living in the countryside.  I was brought up on a farm and was a farmer before becoming a photographer.  I’ve always loved the outdoors and when I left the farm. I began taking pictures professionally while working in the Alps. Once we decided to get married my wife, Fi, and I moved from London to Highland Perthshire and while she became a yoga teacher, I became a fulltime wedding photographer.  I’m now completely outnumbered by girls as we have three teenager daughters.  Luckily I’ve always been fairly laid back and can cope.  I’m just amazed that I’ve made it this far!
I’m a complete optimist about most things and can usually find my way around problems. Farming taught me to be practical and just get on with things. It made me accept that there are some things you can’t change, like the weather, and others that require patience to achieve the best result.

I now realize how helpful these characteristics are when I’m photographing people. That and my sense of humour.

In this mad world that we live in we all need things that keep us sane. I’m such a visual person and love looking at what’s around me. As I write this the colours of autumn are changing the landscape. I find this exciting. The sound of the first geese arriving from the Arctic heralds the advent of winter and the first snows. Waking up to a world covered in snow is magical. It makes everything so clean and quiet. Watching snowflakes fall is tranquillity itself. Time to get the skis out and head to the mountains! Time to take pictures. I can completely change my mood with such thoughts.

Travelling is another of my passions. I’m so lucky to have travelled to many wonderful places. It has definitely helped me to understand others and accept that there are always different ways of doing things.
